World’s tallest human made structure: One Day at Pyramid of Giza
Embarking on a journey through the vast tapestry of the world is like stepping into a boundless adventure, where every turn reveals new landscapes, cultures and experiences.
When I was a 12 years kid, I have gained exceptional interests on ancient Egyptian civilizations after watching the franchise “The Mummy (1999)” for the first time. Later on I completed reading the book “Egyptian Art in the Age of the Pyramid”(https://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/Egyptian_Art_in_the_Age_of_the_Pyramids), from where I further became familiar with ancient Egyptian cultures and rituals. Moreover, I also watched whole bunch of documentaries all about this most famous time in Egypt’s history.
All the sources had one common and prominent feature. They all featured the Pyramids of Giza.
Ever since then, visiting the great Pyramid has been something on my bucket list, and I was very fortunate to cross it off in the year 2019, and it was everything I hoped it would be.
In 2019, my family planned to spend that year’s vacation at Egypt. The next day my father submitted all the official documents to the embassy and within a matter of couple of weeks we received our visa.
After a week later, we finally arrived Cairo and heed to our hotel ‘The Nile’ just situated over the banks of Nile river, at 10’o clock at night. After a good nights sleep, my camera was charged and we were ready to see one of the wonders of the ancient world.
I rocked up to the Pyramids around late in the morning and in hindsight. We probably would have roamed better if we had arrived earlier.
The moistness in the atmosphere was minimum but oh dear the brightness of the Egyptian sun was not a joke!
After putting on sunscreen on my resting face, it was time to enter the grounds and explore the area.
The location of the pyramids in the desert is fair walking distance from the entrance point, as far as that I saw a lot of people driving to it. Nevertheless, the walk itself was pleasant that I was glad I didn’t use any transports.
Anyone who enters the desert will be subject to a surprising amount of badgering and hassling by people who want tourists to ride their camels. Even if anyone looks at a camel for more than half a second, he will be accosted by the camel owner yelling to ride.
One of the camel that I have encountered. It’s presence made some of absolutely stunning shots.
I tried to capture all the pyramids of Giza in one frame.
After getting a handful of shots, I made my way across a couple of roads and towards the two largest pyramids.
Eventually, the sun started to set before me and we decided that it was time to say goodbye to this beautiful place and make my way back to the Hotel in Cairo.
For the first time in my life, I felt like I had the pyramids all to myself , and it was pretty special to me.
Of course the trip is incomplete without a picture of the Sphinx on the way.
Visiting the pyramids was something I had dreamed about doing for many years, and it was definitely and undeniably worth waiting for.
Thanks for reading, and always, happy traveling!
